Tests find traces of alcohol in Coke and other sodas

Scientists who tested 19 different kinds of cola found trace amounts of alcohol in 10 of the samples. However, the amounts were so small that you'd have to consume nearly 13,000 cans to qualify for a DUI.

The Sun reports that the amounts were as low as 10mg per liter, or, 0.001 percent. In other words, you'll still need to visit your local watering hole if you want more jack in your Coke.

France's National Institute of Consumption conducted the tests, which were published in the magazine "60 Millions de Consommateurs."

"It is possible alcohol traces come from the process of making our drink according to its secret recipe," said Coca-Cola France's scientific director Michel Pepin.

Under the "rumors" section of Coca-Cola's website, the company acknowledges:

"Trace levels of alcohol can occur naturally in many foods and beverages. Governments and religious organizations have recognized that such minute levels are considered acceptable in nonalcoholic foods and beverages."

The news has sparked speculation from news outlets that the presence of alcohol could violate the moral codes of certain religions and organizations that prohibit the consumption of alcohol.

However, Pepin specifically notes that the Paris mosque gave Coca-Cola a certificate stating that the Muslim community can consume their products.

PepsiCo also acknowledge the possibility of trace amounts of alcohol in their products, saying, "Some soft drinks can contain minute traces of alcohol because of the ingredients used." However, the company also stressed, "The Pepsi Cola recipe does not contain alcohol."

According to the Sun, both companies said natural fruit fermenting likely produces the traces of alcohol. Interestingly, the study found that the only soda brands which didn't contain the trace amounts of alcohol were generic brands produced by local, French grocery outlets.

Woman dies drinking up to 10 liters of coke a day

Woman drank up to 10 litres of coke a day | Otago Daily Times Online News : Otago, South Island, New Zealand & International News

A mother-of-eight who had an up to 10-litre a day Coca-Cola drinking habit never knew that excessive consumption of the beverage was contributing to her health problems, an inquest into her sudden death heard yesterday.

The Otago-Southland coroner David Crerar heard that Natasha Marie Harris died, aged 30, after a cardiac arrest.

Family hopes death will be lesson to others

At the time of her death, her partner Chris Hodgkinson  spoke out that it was the result of drinking too much Coca-cola and held the company responsible for her death, a claim Coca-Cola rejected but the company was sufficiently concerned that they hired a security firm to protect their Invercargill staff.

Hodgkinson told the court that she had been unwell up to a year before her death, including vomiting six times a week, but Ms Harris, himself and family members believed it was from the stress of managing her eight children and gynecological problems.

"She drank at least 10 litres a day. As a family we would buy four 2.5 litres a day, the maximum on special. The Coke would be for Natasha to consume over the course of the day. The first thing she would do in the morning was have a drink of Coke and the last thing she would do in the day was have a drink of Coke by her bed.''

Police estimated she consumed, on average, seven litres a day.

He said she was addicted to Coke and without it she would get moody, irritable and be low in energy. Yet, he never suspected that the beverage was making her ill.

"I never thought about it. It's just a soft drink, just like drinking water. I didn't think a soft drink was going to kill her.''

Medical evidence stated that the main finding of death was from a cardiac arrhythmia.

Dr Dan Mornin told the court Harris probably had severe hypokalemia, a lack of potassium in the blood, relating to excessive consumption of soft-drink.

He said although it was difficult to confirm this from post-mortem tests, it was consistent with her symptoms of tiredness and lack of strength and other cases of heavy soft-drink consumers, and it was likely her daily vomiting was due to too much caffeine, medically known as caffeine toxicity.

Treasure Hunting

After a long period of constant working, I was able to spend more time with my family. So after many hours of playing on the trampoline, I suggested a less exhausting way to play. Little did I know it was going to cause more work for me later on. Behind our house were only a few trees and a tobacco barn. But over the years the trees covered the landscape into a small forest and the tobacco barn has collapsed into a pancake size nursery of small tree poking through what’s left of the roof structure with old farm equipment sprinkled about the area.

As we journeyed through the woods while dodging briers and fallen trees we discovered a graveyard of empty glass bottles. Many were is great condition but a few had the labels pretty much worn away over years of being exposed to the elements. A few of them were of the old Pepsi and Coke glass bottles the still had some of the original soda still inside. Which has led to more work for me during the winter season?

At the advice of my wife, who wants me to clear out a few areas where the boys can move around the woods without hurting themselves. I nearly laughed in her face. Mainly because I grew up in this area and I along with every other kid have explored these woods without having our parents clear out safety paths, cut all the grass and chased out every small animal and bugs from the area. But being the loving husband and guiding father I promised I’ll do it. Keep the wife happy means less arguments and more brownie points for me. I can’t wait to show them the snake filled lake further inside the forest.

Coca Cola Crisis コカ・コーラ クライシス

Recently the Coca Cola plant near the Raleigh Durham area stopped supporting the 401K plan for their employees. A couple of days ago a few Coca Cola employees were asking if our company was hiring. The reason was that starting in August; all the Coca Cola employees have to stop using all the Coca Cola cars, trucks and vans. They have to use their personnel vehicles when working. That includes all the Coke venders and managers.

One Coke employee stated they are having financial problems.
一人のコークガイが言った。会社は財政危機に陥った。
